The Spitfire was the most widely produced and strategically important British single-seat fighter of World War Two. It was renowned for winning victory laurels in the Battle of Britain (1940-1941) and served in every theatre of the war.

The Spitfire’s superior high-altitude performance provided the margin of victory. It reached a maximum speed of 360mph (580 kph) and a ceiling of 34,000 feet.
